KKR Small Business Grant — KKR Small Business Builders will provide recovery grants to local companies. To be eligible, a business must have between 5 and 50 employees, less than $7 million USD in annual revenue, demonstrated need for support, a strong plan for moving forward, and be in good standing with the IRS or their local regulatory body.

Philanthropy CA —The Philanthropy California team hosts a vetted the list of response funds to help navigate resources for the most vulnerable communities. Their COVID-19 Response list is updated daily and can be filtered based on region.

Rental Assistance for South San Francisco

Do you need help paying rent? Thinking of moving or facing eviction? The City of South San Francisco has partnered with YMCA and Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County to provide timely resources supporting residents in paying rent, finding emergency shelter, paying utility bills and understanding your legal rights as a renter.

Rental Assistance for the City of San Mateo

The City of San Mateo has partnered with Samaritan House to provide up to $120,000 in direct rental assistance for in-home childcare providers economically impacted by COVID-19. Funds are distributed on a rolling basis until the funds are depleted. Financial assistance applications are available in English and Spanish.

Start the application process online. Applicants can use the site to upload documents, check the status of their application, and communication with the Samaritan House’s Case Management Team. Childcare providers are encouraged to call Samaritan House with questions at (650) 347-3648.

Paycheck Protection Program – PPP

Build Up SMC has partnered with San Mateo Credit Union (SMCU) to support Child Care providers apply for a forgivable loan through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). The program is authorized through May 31, 2021 or until all funds have been disbursed. If you are still being affected by COVID-19 and are considering applying for the PPP loan, that was recently approved by Congress, please see below for the documents you will need in order to aide in the completion of your loan application or visit their webpage dedicated to PPP loan information.
 
Please be aware that if you apply for a PPP loan with SMCU, a membership will be required prior to funding a PPP loan. The following are the eligibility requirements for a business membership:  
  • Your business must be located or headquartered in San Mateo County, City of Palo Alto, or select San Francisco zip codes
  • Your annual revenue should not exceed $10,000,000.
  • Your monthly business activities should not require large cash deposits.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created an economic crisis on a global, national and critically on local scale. Many facets of our community have been affected, including the child care workforce which was on the brink of collapse. Below are resources to support the economic recovery of our valued child care sector.

San Mateo County Child Care Relief Fund

Child care providers have safely delivered care throughout the pandemic to keep our essential services and economy running. Still, half of SMC's child care providers could close permanently due to the pandemic. We must invest now to save child care. In July, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors allocated $2M of CARES Act funds to provide grants of up to one month of operating expenses for child care programs serving the county's most vulnerable children. While a good start, this is not enough.​

The goal is to raise an additional $2M to help preserve this vital community infrastructure.

With the current COVID-19 shelter-in-place order, childcare providers are at risk of losing their livelihoods. Private providers –especially those operating in home-based settings – often have limited financial means. They operate with small profit margins and are particularly vulnerable.
